Yourwishisgranted shined bright Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Miami Valley Raceway, scoring his first win of 2023 in the higher end conditioned pace. Guided by Trace Tetrick, the gelding scored the win in 1:51.2, pacing home in :26.4.
At the start, the four inside horses left gamely for the lead, including Yourwishisgranted, Americanfirewater and Brandon Bates claimed the top spot, placing Yourwishisgranted in the two hole before the quarter in :27.2. The top four horses were gapping each other headed to the half as Bates had a big hold on Americanfirewater in :56.4. The tempo really picked up down the backstretch and E Mode’s Desire and Mike Peterson were first up, flushing out Yourwishisgranted just before the three-quarters in 1:24.3.
Around the turn, Yourwishisgranted kept moving up slowly on the outside and by the time he and Americanfirewater had hit the top of the stretch, Yourwishisgranted had put a head in front. He continued to get more of an advantage heading to the wire under the call of guest announcer Roger Huston, winning by one length. Americanfirewater finished second over Dragononthebeach and Tyler Smith, who moved up late for third over E Mode’s Desire.
Yourwishisgranted was the favorite of the field, paying $3.00 for the win. The JK Endofanera gelding is owned by Ruby Huggins and trained by Matt Rheinheimer. Victory Hill Farm Inc. bred the four-year-old gelding, who now has six wins and more than $171,000 in earnings. His career best time of 1:49.4 was taken last year at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
Yourwishisgranted was owned by Bill Huggins, longtime Standardbred owner in the state of Indiana. Huggins, who lived in Wolcottville, Ind., was a successful businessman. He owned and bred several Indiana champions and purchased Yourwishisgranted from the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale for $22,000. Bill passed away in late January, and the horse is now owned by his widow Ruby. It was the first start for the gelding since Bill passed away.
Earlier on the card, Echos Sharkie and Brady Galliers turned in a mild upset in conditioned claiming action. The Indiana sired gelding traveled three wide around the final turn before opening up in the stretch for the win by two and one-half lengths in 1:55.0. Shady Justice and Sam Widger finished second over Gascoigne Rocks and Kayne Kauffman for third.
Both Echos Sharie and Shady Justice are both four-year-old sons of Shadyshark Hanover. Echos Sharkie is owned and bred by Jim Ingersoll of Michigan while Shady Justice is owned and bred by Bill Webb of Ohio. Terry Deters trains Echos Sharkie, who paid $10.20 for the win.
