Vying for a $10,000 purse, Tellmeitmatters had the inside post and used early speed to get the two-hole behind Where’s Drogon and James Yoder and Bit of Bitofbitterbutter and Patrizio Ancora. When the dust settled Where’s Drogon obtained the lead but was still joined by Bitofbitterbutter on the outside, who kept the pace lively.
In the final turn, the field began to spread out some as the field turned for home with Tellmeitmatters getting the advantage and going to work. The Tellitlikeitis gelding rallied home in :27.0 for the win by one half length over M-M’s Bud and Jay Cross, who closed on the inside. Warrior of Truth and Ricky Macomber Jr. closed gamely on the outside in the 1:51.4.
Tellmeitmatters paid $7.40 for the win. The homebred gelding is owned by William and W. Patrick DeLong. It was the racing debut for the freshman pacer, trained by Roger Welch. The colt is a half brother to the tough veteran racehorse Ideal Matters, who has a mark of 1:49.0 and more than $649,000 in earnings. He also has a full sister that is a yearling this year named Lilliputian.
The second dam of Tellmeitmatters is the great Hit Parade, a world champion mare who took a mark of 1:53.4 and made over $800,0000 in the early 1980s. She was successful as a brood mare, producing nine winners in 11 foals.
