Swan Diego and Joey Putnam turned in a game performance Saturday, Sept. 10 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. The one time Indiana Sired Fair Circuit contender led gate to wire for the win in 1:53.0, a new career best.

Swan Diego and Joey Putnam are game to the wire in a new lifetime mark of 1:53.0 Sat. Sept. 10 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
Swan Diego strolled out of post six to head straight to the lead and was on top by open lengths through fractions of :27.4, :55.3 and 1:23.3. Delgado and Trace Tetrick had been tracking along in second the entire mile and hoped to run down Swan Diego in the stretch.
With a four-length advantage heading down the stretch, Swan Diego wasn’t giving in, creating a tough scenario for Delgado to make up much ground. He did close in some late in the race, but it was all Swan Diego at the wire, one and one-quarter lengths ahead of Delgado. Bluebird Yoshi and Peter Wrenn finished third.
Swan Diego was a surprise winner, paying $27.40 for the win. The Swan for All four-year-old is trained by Ronnie Roberts and owned by Lester Raber and Stephen Stoll. Raber bred the gelding.
It was the third win of the season for Swan Diego, who now has more than $54,000 on his card. He is the third foal out of the great race mare Lakeview Fest, an Indiana sired daughter of ABC Garland that won her fair share of Indiana Sires Stakes events during her career. She retired with a mark of 1:58.1 and more than $467,000 in earnings. She has a two-year-old full sister to Swan Diego that has raced this year named Swan Dora.
