Charles Stewart has been a staple among the trainers at Harrah’s Hoosier Park for nearly 20 decades. Stewart has hit many milestones in his career, and he just added another one as he pulled in his 1,000th career training win Saturday, Aug. 19 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.

Stewart prepped I C Caviar to a victory in the third race of the night. Guided by John DeLong, the 12-year-old son of Malabar Millennium trotted home in the claiming race in :28.2 to score the win by one and one-quarter lengths over Resita and Atlee Bender in a time of 1:54.2. He paid $10.80 for the win. I C Caviar is owned by Lucky Label Stable of Ohio and was bred by Pine Creek Stables of Michigan.
It was the seventh win of the year for I C Caviar. Overall, he has 47 in 299 career starts with his career best time of 1:53.3 taken at The Meadowlands as a five-year-old. With his most recent win for Stewart, the gelding moved over the half-million-dollar mark in earnings. He has gone through dozens of owner changes over the years in the claiming ranks and has been with the Stewart barn since the end of April.
For Stewart, it was his 52nd win of 2023. He began training in 2006 and earned leading trainer honors in 2011. His best year to date was in 2017 when he won 114 races and nearly $900,000 in earnings. The Anderson, Ind. native was introduced to harness racing through family connections and was part of the first couple of classes of the Harness Racing Youth League as a teenager. The 36-year-old now has more than $7.9 million in career earnings out of 5,719 starts.
Stewart is currently ranked fourth in the trainer standings at Harrah’s Hoosier Park with 40 wins and a win percentage of 25. IC Caviar is his top horse in wins this season followed by Dojea Rock and Zach MaGuire N, who each have six wins. Other horses with multiple wins this season for the Stewart barn include Fox Valley Sampson, Rollinwitdaponyzzz and Stormy Skies.
