The secret is out on the invasion of Indiana trotters at Yonkers Raceway. A trio of Hoosiers dominated the $11,000 conditioned trot Friday, Feb. 9 led by Secret or Not and Jordan Stratton to the finish line.
Secret or Not glided to next to last at the start, just behind fellow Indiana sired Bluebird Jesse and Yannick Gingras as Wily Wally and Jason Bartlett rushed out to the lead from the outside and cleared the front after the quarter in :28.0. Everyone followed along in single file through the half in :58.0 before Scubadan and George Brennan were the first to pull to the outside, which prompted Secret or Not to follow suit heading into the backstretch the second time. Scubadan was able to flush Everlastingfashion and Joe Bongiorno and follow cover through the three-quarters in 1:27.2. Around the final turn, Bluebird Jesse moved three wide and Secret or Not once again followed him into the stretch before tipping out even further for the stretch drive.
Secret or Not began closing in with every stride and was able to get by Scubadan, also Indiana sired, in the final step, winning by a nose in 1:58.1. Bluebird Jess rallied up to finish third to make it an Indiana trifecta.
Secret or Not paid $8.50 for the win. The six-year-old Musclesprinctonian gelding is owned by Greg Gardner of Michigan and trained by Todd Buter. It was his first win of 2024 and his 21st overall in 92 starts. He now has more than $175,000 in career earnings with his career best taken as a five-year-old last year at Pocono Downs in 1:55.4.
A few races later it was J-S Hopscotch in the winners circle for George Brennan. The Mr Web Page trotter sat in second behind Grinder and Brent Holland until he reached the stretch. He was able to find racing room and rallied up for the win by one length over Grinder in 1:56.0. Donato Patriot K and Joe Bongiorno finished third.
J-S Hopscotch paid $12.20 for the win. He is now owned by Rags to Riches of PA and trained by Travis Alexander. Ben Wittmer Jr. bred the one-time Indiana Sired Fair Circuit contender, who carries his previous owner’s moniker J-S for the Jack Myers Stable.
