Only three races got in before storms and lightning shut down the rest of the card Wednesday, April 5 at Miami Valley. One of the three winners was Indiana sired Ron’s EOM, who kicked off the program with a win in the first race.

Guided by Tyler Smith, Ron’s EOM got away in fourth as Eminem Hanover and Trevor Smith rallied out to the lead from the outside and set fractions of :27.3 and :56.0 without any opposition. Just after the half, here came the challengers led by Beach Party and Brett Miller, with Lou’s Delight and Jeremy Smith moving two wide and Ron’s EOM also wanting to advance, traveling three-wide into the turn.
By the time the field had reached the top of the stretch, Ron’s EOM was in perfect position and on even terms with Lou’s Delight and Beach Party. He continued to hit the ground in high gear down the stretch, pulling away to a two and one-quarter length win in 1:54.3, the fastest last quarter of the field over the rain soaked track. Lou’s Delight was second, just a half length ahead of Beach Party.
Ron’s EOM paid $6.80 for the win. The eight-year-old son of Net Ten EOM is owned by Scott Albaugh and Bradley Delaney of Ohio. Shawn Barker trains the gelding, who was bred by Frank Baldachino and foaled in Berne, Ind. He has been with his current connections since November, and has changed hands a lot during his career. His early career was spent with Eleven Star Stables before venturing to the East Coast, before eventually coming back to Ohio. He has had 16 different owners over the course of his career and was owned by Albaugh and DeLaney once before, earlier in 2022 before being claimed back by them in November.
It was the first win of 2023 for Ron’s EOM, who began his career at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. Overall, he has 16 career wins in 162 starts with more than $223,000 on his card. His career best time of 1:50 was taken as a five-year-old at Dover Downs.
Ron’s EOM is a true Indiana horse. His dam, Ron’s Blue Angel, was a successful two-year-old in Indiana, earning more than $146,000 and taking a mark of 1:54.3. Ron’s EOM joins Hayswood Ron with a mark of 1:53.1 and Angelinmyway as top performers in the family. Angelinmyway has a mark of 1:54.3 and $128,000 on her card and is now a brood mare herself.
