Pink Ruby is on a roll. The Indiana sired mare earned her fourth win in her last five starts and brought home a victory for her new connections in her first start of 2024 at The Meadowlands Friday, Jan. 12.
Starting from post three, Pink Ruby went right over to the rail at the start as Luck B Mine and Andy Miller busted out from the outside post nine and got the lead through the quarter in :27.4. Stratton kept Pink Ruby right on the back of Luck B Mine as Bolt of Beauty and Marcus Miller moved around to the lead just after the quarter. Bolt of Beauty led the way through the half in :57.4 as the outer tier began to form. Pink Ruby had a big hold on Stratton, who once again opted to stay inside and was shuffled back around the final turn.
Horses fanned out across the track, including Indiana sired Phelgon who was part of the outer flow. In the stretch, Pink Ruby found the room she needed inside and moved up the rail for the win as the track announcer noted, the shortest route to the finish line. Huntressville A and David Miller finished a half length back in second over Luck B Mine in the three-horse photo for third. Phelgon was fourth. The time of the mile was 1:54.2 on a blustery evening at The Big M.
Pink Ruby paid $16.60 for the win. She is owned by Tim Drag, VIP Internet Stable, and Rich Preziotti, all of New Jersey. Michael Schmucker bred the four-year-old daughter of Shadyshark Hanover.
Pink Ruby begins a small win streak of two straight wins after completing her three-year-old season with six wins and 24 of 32 starts in the top three. Her career best time of 1:52.3 was taken last year at Harrah’s Hoosier Park under the direction of Walter Haynes Jr. She was making her first start at The Meadowlands and has not missed a check dating back to May of 2023. The one-time Indiana Sired Fair Circuit contender now has more than $75,000 on her card.
