Nearly every race on the Saturday, March 5 racing card at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono included late closers for claimers in the Game of Claims series. Topping one of six divisions of the $17,500 claiming event was Parklane Jet, driven by Matt Kakaley.
Parklane Jet rolled out with authority as the race favorite when the gate folded, getting to the lead in :26.4 before allowing My Friskie Boy and George Napolitano to move onto the lead at the half in :57.0. From there, Parklane Jet followed along with the second tier formed by Heartlandbanysbro and Marcus Miller, who were first over.
Past the three-quarters in 1:25.2, My Frisky Boy still had the advantage with Parklane Jet right at his back. When room opened up, Parklane Jet was able to get by for the win by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:53.4, a final quarter paced in :28.1. My Friskie Boy was second, a neck ahead of Winning is Sweet, an Indiana sired 10-year-old gelding by Dontgetinmyway, driven by Jim Pantaleano for third.
Parklane Jet paid $4.60 for the win. The Jereme’s Jet six-year-old is owned by Wildcard Stables Inc. of Michigan and was bred by Shirley LeVin. Darren Taneyhill trains the Indiana sired gelding, who was claimed from the race by Chuck Mazzarella of New Jersey. Wildcard Stables claimed him from the first round of Game of Claims for $15,000.
It was the first win of the year for Parklane Jet, who has 15 career wins from 110 career starts. His career best time was taken last year as a five-year-old at Running Aces in 1:51.4. He now has a bankroll of more than $136,000.
