Mystical Glance and Jordan Ross began from post one and used that to their advantage, rallying out to the early lead, posting a mild fraction of :29.0 for the first panel. Track N Field and Michael Oosting sat right on her back through the half in :57.3 before being covered up by Brooklets Likeitis and Kyle Wilfong, first over.
In the stretch, Mystical Glance was holding her ground as the field began to get into tactical position to make a run at the leader. But Mystical Glance was well under wraps at the finish line, scoring the victory in a new lifetime mark of 1:54.0, a final quarter in :27.2. Track ’N Field finished second over Cruisersfoxyjudy and John DeLong for third.
Mystical Glance paid $4.60 for the win. The Luck Be Withyou filly is now three for five in her brief career. Scott Skinner and Todd Mathewson own the filly. Henry Graber Jr. is the trainer of the filly from breeder DeWayne Miller.
Mystical Glance is from the third crop of Luck Be Withyou. She was one of 29 sold at public auction last fall and brought $5,500 from the Northern Indiana Speed Sale. She is a half sister to the Ohio bred Tucker Creek, who has a mark of 1:51.1.
Later on the card, another freshman scored an impressive win as Midnight Rocker and Trace Tetrick were big winners for trainer Tyler George. The Rockin Image gelding got away third behind early leader Dynamic Desire and Randy Crisler before shooting around and taking the lead before the half in :58.2. From there, he moved away from the field, eventually winning by seven and three-quarter lengths in 1:53.4. He paced his final quarter in :26.4. Ponda Beach and Michael Oosting finished second while Donttellmenow and John DeLong and Bluebird Zantrax and Brandon Bates dead heated for third.
Midnight Rocker was the favorite of the field, paying $3.00. He is owned by SCP Stable Inc., Cassie George, and Trent Stohler Stable Inc. Newfound Stables bred the gelding, who was making his first career start. He was a $25,000 yearling purchase last fall from the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale.
