Starting from post six, My Uncle Cuz shot out from behind the gate and was on top before the field crossed by the quarter in :28.1. From there, he was able to control the tempo, posting middle fractions of :57.1 and 1:25.3 as Kilauea and Trace Tetrick moved up first over to challenge.
In the stretch, My Uncle Cuz dug in gamely and fended off Kilauea, who wouldn’t go away. In the end, My Uncle Cuz was a winner by three-quarters of a length. Kilauea finished a neck ahead of Indiana sired Vel Jail Bondsman and Cameron McCown for the second spot.
My Uncle Cuz paid $6.00 for the win. The nine-year-old son of ABC Garland was bred by Perry Coblentz and represents one of the first trotting stallions in Indiana that produced numerous Sires Stakes winners, including millionaire ABC Mercedes.
It was the second win of the year for My Uncle Cuz. It was his 20th win of his long career and his bankroll is now more than $400,000. My Uncle Cuz scored his career best time of 1:52.0 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park for Harmon, who has owned him his entire career.
Another impressive veteran winner on the Monday card was Get Around Town from the Tessa Perrin Stable. The 13-year-old Jereme’s Jet gelding had post one but opted to stay in mid pack as Stateline Action and Trace Tetrick set the early fraction of :27.2 before Hypnotic Dan and Dan Noble moved to the lead by the half in :55.4. By the three-quarters, Get Around Town was leading the charge from the outside and left his opponents at his heels, winning by three and one-quarter lengths in 1:52.3.
It was an Indiana double behind Jereme’s Jet as Hypnotic Dan, a son of Hypnotic Blue Chip finished second over Stateline Action, a son of Luck Be Withyou, for third. Get Around Town paid $8.40 for the win.
Owned by Perrin, Get Around Town was driven by Brett Miller in the win, his third of the year. He has only finished off the board twice in nine starts in 2023. Overall, he has 41 career wins in 396 starts with earnings of more than $548,000. His career best time of 1:51.3 was taken as an eight-year-old at Dayton Raceway.
This was the first start for Get Around Town for Perrin, who claimed him out of his last race. Perrin has owned him three other times in the past year. The gelding started his career in Canada where he was born before venturing to the United States. Jereme’s Jet moved to Indiana in 2014 and had his last registered foal in Indiana in 2021. Get Around Town has been successful for many barns over the year and has had 35 different owner changes over his career.
