What is the Breeders Crown?
The Breeders Crown is an annual event that brings together the best of the best in the world of harness racing to compete in different age divisions based on sex and gate (trot or pace). The 2017 events at Hoosier Park will be the 34th edition of the Breeders Crown.
When is the Breeders Crown?
The 2017 Breeders Crown is Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28. The Breeders Crown is typically held late Fall to culminate harness race meets across North America and bring the year’s best Standardbred racehorses to compete against one another.
What is the difference between the Breeders’ Cup and the Breeders Crown?
While they are similar in importance, they are different in that the Breeders’ Cup was created as a championship event for Thoroughbred horses and the Breeders Crown is a championship event for Standardbred horses.
What are the Breeders Crown post times?
Hoosier Park’s standard first race post time is 6:30 pm. While the actual Breeders Crown race post times are not yet determined, the races will be run in the evening on both Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28.
What is the difference between the different Breeders Crown races?
Breeders Crown races differ between the age, sex and gate (trot or pace) of the horses. Each of the races will be contested at the traditional one-mile distance.
How many Breeders Crown races are there?
There will be 12 Breeders Crown races in total, with elimination races held the prior weekend. Hoosier Park and the Hambletonian Society have not yet determined a final schedule but the 12 championships races will be offered over the two-night Breeders Crown program. Hoosier Park will also offer a full card of additional, highly competitive races each night as a compliment to the Breeders Crown races.
Has Hoosier Park ever hosted the Breeders Crown?
2017 will be the first year that Hoosier Park has the honor of hosting the Breeders Crown.
Why is the Breeders Crown at Hoosier Park?
The Hambletonian Society, who is responsible for putting on the Breeders Crown races, showed interest in bringing the event back to the Midwest with the last event in the area held more than two decades ago. With Hoosier Park now being one of the top harness tracks in North America, the decision was made by the Hambletonian Society without reservation.
What horses will be racing in the Breeders Crown?
The very best horses – based on their performance in 2017 – will qualify for the event. Follow Hoosier Park’s Breeders Crown coverage throughout the year to stay up-to-date on the road to the Breeders Crown.
Will there be advanced wagering?
Yes. Advanced wagering will be available the day before each of the Breeders Crown race days.
