The racing season is less than two months away at Harrah’s Hoosier Park and owners are beginning to think about their stables for the 2021 racing season. Several Indiana sired horses will be offered in the 58th annual Winter Speed Sale. The event is set for Tuesday, Feb. 9 at The Champions Center Expo, located off I-70 in Springfield, Ohio.
Heading the list of trotters for sale is Mr. Buckaroo, who competed on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit (ISFC) at two and three. The now five-year-old son of Mr Cantab goes into the ring with nine wins and $41,000 in earnings. He took a career best time of 1:59.2 last fall at Hawthorne for the Wilfong Stable and turned in his last start in early September.
An Indiana sired pacer included in the sale is Glorious Prince, who has a mark of 1:50.2 and earnings over $30,000. The gelded five-year-old son of Always A Virgin is a brother to Always Prince, who has a mark of 1:47.3 and earnings nearing the $900,000 mark. Glorious Prince has raced three times in 2021 at Miami Valley Raceway.
A two-year-old by JK Endofanera is also selling in the Blooded Horse Sale. High Aspirations, a half sister to Rockin BB (1:51.3, $200,000), is from the family of the great Go On BB. The filly will sell as Hip No. 54 and according to the owner’s statement, she was not able to sell at the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale due to a Microchip issue, which has now been resolved. In the meantime, High Aspirations is broke and jogging with hopples and is staked to several events, including Indiana Sires Stakes, ISFC, ISA Elite, the Standardbred and the Bluegrass.
A total of 186 horses are entered in the sale. The sale begins at 9:30 a.m. and COVID-19 protocols will be in place, including the requirement for face masks. An equipment sale will take place before the sale beginning at 8:30 a.m. Additional equipment will be available for sale after the last horse sells.
