Harrah’s Hoosier Park will begin the phased in process en route to the 2020 racing season. Approximately 150 horses have been on the backstretch at the track since Saturday, March 14 with no additional horses or trainers allowed on since that time. Tomorrow, Monday, May 11, will mark the first phase of moving in on the backstretch.
Horses currently stabled in Indiana will be allowed to enter the backstretch. Horses stabled outside of Indiana will be allowed to enter the barn area beginning May 24. Appointments must be made before shipping into Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
All essential workers will go through safety protocols before entering the barn area and will receive a color specific bracelet that shows they have been through the safety protocols. Dormitory move-ins will also be allowed by appointment only. Those staying in the dorms must check in with security between 6 a.m. and Noon daily to go through safety protocols.
Additional signage and safety stations are in each barn and public area. Those working with the horses are asked to practice safe social distancing while working in the barn area.
Additional signage and protocols are also assigned to those staying in the dormitory.
The 2020 racing season at Harrah’s Hoosier Park is set to begin the week of June 14. The first set of qualifiers will be held Tuesday, May 19 to prepare for the 27th season of Standardbred racing.
