Another strong showing was turned in at the Blooded Horse’s Spring Mixed Sale at Champions Center Expo in Springfield, Ohio Tuesday, May 14. Almost 400 horses went through the sales ring and according to the Blooded Horse Sale, tied last year’s Spring Sale as the best in the 56-year history of the sale.

Included in the lineup of entrants were several Indiana sired horses. One notable horse, Mr. Bigly, will be returning to Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
Purchased by Brian Carsey, John McGill and Jeff Fought, Mr Bigly had seven starts for 2019 coming into the sale. The $47,000 purchase also came into the sale off his career best, winning his last start in 1:52.2. The gelded son of Always A Virgin was part of Bruce Trogden’s Emerald Highlands Farm consignment and was unraced as a two-year-old.
Numerous hip numbers from Indiana sires were included in the sale. Some of the Indiana sires represented were Always A Virgin, Real Desire, Rockin Image, Tellitlikeitis, Jailhouse Jesse, Sand Shooter, Shadyshark Hanover, and Skydancer Hanover, just to name a few.
Also capturing the attention of Indiana buyers was Cheese Melt, a son of Betterthancheddar that was purchased by Fred Linz of Dyer, Ind. in the northwest corner of the state. Dyer purchased the four-year-old gelding for $62,000.
The next sale for the Blooded Horse Sales Company will be the Summer Sale set for Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Wed. Aug. 28 at the Champions Center Expo. The ale will include yearlings as well as racehorses.
