Hotshot Betsy and Jordan Ross, shot through traffic to score the win in the Conditioned pace Saturday, Nov. 18 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. The Indiana sired homebred scored the win in 1:53.2.

Hotshot Betsy slingshotted out of the gate to grab the early lead through fractions of :28.2 and :57.3 before being overtaken by Maybemabel and Trace Tetrick in the far turn. After the field passed the three-quarters in 1:25.1, Hotshot Betsy stayed along the inside as challengers were gathering up on the outside to attack the top spot. When room arrived, Hotshot Betsy moved up the inside as Brooklets Desire and Kyle Wilfong moved on the outside of Maybemabel. In the end, Hotshot Betsy got the advantage by a neck over Brooklets Desire. Maybemabel finished between horses for third.
Hotshot Betsy was a bit of a surprise winner, paying $7.40 to win. The Luck Be Withyou four-year-old is owned and bred by Doug and Donna Geesaman Doug also trains the mare, who earned her third win of 2023.
Hotshot Betsy is from the mare, Crown Lady, who was acquired by the Geesamans as a six-year-old and continued to race. She completed her racing career at the age of eight with 16 wins, a mark of 1:51.0 taken at Pocono Downs, and earnings of more than $268,000. As a brood mare, she has had four foals and all have raced. Hotshot Betsy is her last foal with DD’s Big Joe the richest and the fastest with a mark of 1:50.2 and $111,000 in earnings.
Hotshot Betsy started her career on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit and race there mainly at two and three. She now has 12 career wins and more than $82,000 on her card with her career best time of 1:52.2 taken earlier this year at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
