Hoosier Park’s Emily Gaskin, race marketing manager and on-air racing analyst, along with Rose Flood, race marketing coordinator, are representing the track at the second annual Equestricon held at the Convention Center in Louisville, Ky. The event showcases all types of horse racing and was set to complement the upcoming Breeders Cup, which will be held at Churchill Downs Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3.

Gaskin and Flood teamed up with a group from Indiana Grand to help bring awareness to Indiana racing of all kinds. Representing Indiana Grand at Equestricon is Alicia Mummert, senior marketing manager, Rachel McLaughlin, racing broadcast production manager and on-air racing analyst, and Riley Christen, race marketing audio visual intern. In addition to information about racing, the Indiana booth has interactive games for those in attendance to select winners from races shown on a laptop for a chance at t-shirts, caps and small stress-related horse figurines.
Equestricon’s convention portion of the week runs Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday, Oct. 30. The event then moves to Churchill Downs for a special day at the races that includes other interactive events. The draw for the Breeders Cup was held at Equestricon on Monday to help boost awareness and attendance for the draws.
The Indiana Standardbred and Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Developments are also in attendance for Equestricon with a separate booth for those in attendance.
Equestricon began in August 2017 and the inaugural event was held at Saratoga. Plans are to move the event from year to year to different areas associated with horse racing. The event also includes numerous workshops, special guests and speakers during the week long lineup of activities.
Equestricon represents one of the many things “off campus” that Hoosier Park does to promote Standardbred racing in the state of Indiana.
