The Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale, held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, completed its two-day session Saturday, Oct. 21 during a very busy weekend for Indiana Standardbred racing. According to the sale website, a total of 397 yearlings were sold over two sessions with the average just over $20,000 per horse. A total of nearly $8 million was accumulated for sale prices. Both sessions were led by foals of Swan for All with Ponda Jewel selling for $130,000 Friday and Ponda Bugatti selling for $115,000 on Saturday. Wrenn Racing Stable purchased by yearlings.

Ponda Bugatti is the third foal from the mare, Much Fanfare, a daughter of Muscle Hill. He is a full brother to Ponda Grace, who has been a major contender in Indiana Sires Stakes action this season for two-year-old fillies and her mark is 1:57.1. The colt is from the red-hot breeding operation of Pond-A-Acres.
Pond-A-Acres also sold the second highest seller during the second session. Ponda Help, a daughter of Helpisontheway, was purchased for $92,000 by the Hochstetler family. The filly is a half sister to Ponda Title, who has raced very well for the Hochstetler barn this year. The Muscle Massive filly has a mark of 1:55.1 and earned multiple wins in Indiana Sires Stakes action this year for two-year-old fillies. The second dam has so much black type underneath her, there was no room on the page for a third dam listing Ponda Help is heavily staked to prepare for her racing career. She wore Hip No. 248 into the sales ring.
The third highest seller for the second session was Hip No. 331, also purchased by Wrenn Racing. Kelsey’s Reason, a daughter by Helpisontheway, hailed from the Aron Bontrager consignment. The trotting bred filly is the second foal from the Muscle Massive mare Kelsey Hanover. She is a full sister to Elhelpski, a two-year-old this season with a mark of 1:56.1.
One more sale is planned for Indiana this fall. The Midwest Classic Mixed Sale will be held Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the Michiana Event Center in Shipshewana, Ind. The sale, which begins at Noon, includes yearlings, breeding stock, racehorses and weanlings.
