The Harness Horse Youth Foundation (HHYF) recently announced its summer schedule for one-day camps in 2021, and the series will make a stop at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland, Ind. The camp is set for Thursday, August 5 and will be the second stop on the six-camp series.

The Jay County Fairgrounds will welcome campers 11 and up beginning at 8AM. The camp will include a full day of hands-on experience with the Trottingbred ponies used in the camps for HHYF. The camp continues through 4PM with a fee of $35 per camper, which includes lunch. Discounts are available for registered 4-H members, and registration is limited.
The HHYF On the Road Again tour in 2021 will also make stops at The Red Mile in Lexington, Ky. July 20, Gaitway Farm in New Jersey Aug. 9, Bloomsburg Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania Aug. 16. Gratz Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania, and Butler Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania Aug. 19.
Campers will learn the basics of Standardbred racing, from harnessing horses to the proper care and grooming of the horses. HHYF is also offering five “Meet and Greet” events where kids can participate in special activities about harness racing. These one-day events are slated for Hambletonian Day Aug. 7, Dan Patch Community Festival in Oxford, Ind. Sept. 10 – 12, Fayette Fest at The Red Mile Sept. 19, Community Night at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Sept. 24, and during the Breeders Crown at The Meadowlands Oct. 29 and 30.
