Kicking off the evening is the first of two divisions of the Jera Larkins Memorial for Indiana sired fillies and mares. The field includes several horses that fared well on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit last season, including Celebrate Winning from the Walter Haynes Jr. Stable. The Guccio filly makes her seasonal debut from post eight with defending driving champ Trace Tetrick in the bike. She comes into the race off two qualifiers at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. Owned by Brian Carsey and Maynard Miller, Celebrate Winning will look to pick up where she left off last season when she won nine races in 18 starts and took a career best time of 1:57.4.
Several other series are included on the season opener with two dedicated to Standardbred horsemen that passed away from Covid-19 this spring. The Carmine Fusco Memorial and the John Brennan Memorial will join the Cardinal Series on the 14-race card.
Trotters are included in the Cardinal Series with Race seven setting up nicely with some young trotting talent. Bluebird Deacon, who prepped in Florida for trainer-driver Jay Cross, starts from post three while Exconvict from the Andy Shetler barn starts from post four. Both horses will make their 2020 racing debut.
