Owned by Burke Racing StableLLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Frank Baldachino and J and T Silva Stables LLC, Hannelore Hanover is the twice defending title holder for Older Trotting Mare in Canada. The now six-year-old trotting sensation won six races during the year and added more than $400,000 to her bankroll that exceeds $2.8 million. While in Canada, she swept the Armbro Flight Stakes and scored two other wins in the Cutler Memorial and the Miss Versatility to position herself for the year-end honor. She faces Emoticon Hanover, who was also a finalist last year, for the 2018 title.
Hannelore Hanover started her career off at Hoosier Park. After only two starts at two, she caught fire in the Indiana Sires Stakes series at three and went on at four to win 17 of 20 starts. The Indiana bred daughter of Swan for All went on to be named by Dan Patch and O’Brien Older Trotting Mare of the Year in 2016 and 2017. The world champion mare took her best mark of 1:49.2 last season as a five-year-old.
Local racing fans only got to see Hannelore Hanover race one time in 2018. The Burke trained mare finished fifth in the $200,000 Caesars Stakes in late September.
The winners for the O’Brien awards will be announced Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019.
