Grand Swan, the standout trotting filly for trainer-driver LeWayne Miller, added another win to her credentials Wednesday, June 26 in the $40,000 Star Destroyer for three-year-old fillies at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. She was a three-quarter length winner over Breeders Crown champ Woodside Charm and Verlin Yoder in a time of 1:53.1.
Starting from post six, Grand Swan slipped right in behind Woodside Charm at the start and stayed close as fractions of :27.1, :56.0 and 1:24.4 were placed on the board. In the stretch, Grand Swan picked up another gear and moved up the inside, trotting home in :28.1 for the win over Woodside Charm, who was making her first start of 2019. Pure Chance and Jason Thompson finished third.
A slight upset, Grand Swan paid $7.80 to win. Owned by Grand Swan Racing, Go Fast Stable and Never 2 Late Stable, the Swan for All filly is now a perfect three for three in 2019 and 11 of 15 in her career. The time of 1:53.1 was also a new career best.
For Woodside Charm, it was her first career loss after going undefeated at two. The Chapter Seven filly is now seven for eight lifetime with earnings in excess of $531.000 for Yoder.
