Governor Eric Holcomb officially extended the “stay at home” order for the state of Indiana to 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 1 during his daily press conference Monday, April 20. The order is for all residents and non-essential businesses, which includes the continued shutdown of racing and casino operations at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.

Although the order was extended, Holcomb did announce plans to slowly phase business openings back in. Horse racing has not been included in any of his comments at this point, but it is encouraging to see state regulations relaxing as the Covid-19 restrictions head into the sixth week.
At the beginning of April, there were 152 horses stabled on the backstretch at Harrah’s Hoosier Park spread out over 14 different trainers. Several stables that head south each winter are still in place until they can ship north to Indiana for the upcoming 26th racing season for Standardbred racing in Indiana.
