Rollin Rosie and Trace Tetrick had the difficult starting spot on the outside and chose to let others vie for the early lead. Rollin Rosie got away seventh as Fortunada and John DeLong grabbed the early lead in :27.2. Polks Image and Kyle Wilfong moved around and took control by the half in :56.2 and continued to lead the way at the three-quarters in 1:24.1 with Rollin Rosie making the trek first over to join Polks Image on the lead.
In the stretch, Rollin Rosie grabbed the lead and fended off late challengers at the wire for the win in 1:51.1, a half length ahead of Fortunada. Sleazy Mama and Michael Oosting closed well for third.
Rollin Rosie was the favorite of the field, paying $3.00 to win. The JK Endofanera filly is owned by SCP Stable, Tyler George, and Greg Samples. George trains the filly, who is now two for two in 2023 after winning six of seven last year at two. Joining Rollin Rosie as a Sires Stakes winner was Tell’s On a Roll, who also is undefeated in two starts this year. Guided by Tetrick, Tell’s On A Roll used similar tactics and got away in mid pack as It’s Corona Time and Ricky Macomber set the first fraction of :27.2 with Some Big Dream and Joey Putnam taking over at the half in :56.0. Tell’s On a Roll became the third leader at the three-quarters in 1:25.2, but the fight wasn’t over. Tell’s On a Roll had to fend off challengers all the way to the wire, winning by a neck over It’s Corona Time. Some Big Dream finished third.
