The Indiana Sires Stakes program is gearing up for 2019. More than 530 nominations were recently accumulated for three-year-olds and older horses and the Indiana Standardbred Breed Development is nearing the deadline for nominations from two-year-olds. Nominations for the freshman class of the Indiana Sires Stakes is set for Monday, April 15.
A new format will go into place beginning in 2019. There will be eight legs with a $250,000 Super Final for three-year-olds while two-year-olds will have six legs with a $250,000 Super Final. Estimated purse money for the rich program is $8.5 million, up from $7.8 million in 2019. In the entire Indiana Standardbred Breed Development program, including late closers, overnights, mini series and fairs, will reach in excess of $13.6 million in 2019.
The first round of Indiana Sires Stakes will be held Wednesday, May 29. The Super Finals are set for Friday, Oct. 11 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
