With the arrival of the month of February also means it is time for horsemen and horsewomen to start getting stakes payments in. The Hambletonian Society facilitates several of the stakes offered in Indiana and the due date is set for Saturday, Feb. 15.

Because the date falls on a weekend, payments have a few extra days to be safe in getting into the stakes. All payments must be postmarked by midnight Tuesday, Feb. 18 to be eligible for the coordinating stakes races.
Included on the list of stakes under the Hambletonian umbrella is the Crossroads of America and USS Indianapolis for fillies, the Carl Erskine and Monument Circle, the Pegasus, the Star Destroyer Series, and the Circle City. Open events with payment due dates coming up include the Caesar’s Trotting Classic, the Dan Patch and the Hoosier Park Pacing Derby. Most payments are $300 for the majority of the stakes requiring a stakes payment. The Dan Patch, Carl Erskine, Monument Circle, Crossroads of America, USS Indianapolis and Caesars Trotting Classic require a $500 payment in mid-February. The Hoosier Park Pacing Derby requires a $1,500 payment for the Sept. 25 race.
In addition, sustaining payments are due for the Breeders Crown, which is set for Harrah’s Hoosier Park this year Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31.
