Starting from post three, E Mode’s Desire got away in mid-pack and followed along as Rockinsweetvictory and Trace Tetrick set the tempo at :26.1 and :54.4. Around the final turn, E Mode’s Desire and Peterson were flushed out first over and moved into the lead at the top of the stretch.
E Mode’s Desire passed up the horses on the front, but it was the horses in the back that were the ones to watch. Crooked Smile and LeWayne Miller came barreling at the leaders, but couldn’t reach them in time with E Mode’s Desire winning the race by a half length over Crooked Smile. Pekeson N and Sam Widger also closed late to finish third.
E Mode’s Desire paid $10.40 for the win. The Real Desire son paced home in :26.2 in the mild upset.
E Mode’s Desire now has three wins in nine starts this season. Overall, he has made 17 trips to the winner’s circle and is nearing the $100,000 mark in earnings. E Mode’s Desire and Peterson spent most of their time on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit as a two and three-year-old with the occasional trip to the pari-mutuel ranks.
David Wayne Yoder of Shipshewana, Ind. bred the gelding, who was one of 16 sold at auction as a yearling in 2015. Peterson purchased E Mode’s Desire for $6,500 at the Blooded Horse Sale that season.
