Dover in Motion and John DeLong turned in a lightning fast mile Saturday, Dec. 16 to win the featured $25,000 Open Handicap at Hollywood Gaming Dayton. The duo scored the win in 1:52.1 to set the record for four-year-old gelding trotters in the event.
Starting from the outside post eight, Dover in Motion casually moved over to the inside path as Rose Run Valor and Kayne Kauffman took the top spot, posting early fractions of :27.3 and :56.3. By the half Dover in Motion was at the back of the outer flow led by Wildfire Seelster and Dan Noble. Heading into the final turn, Dover in Motion flipped three wide to make up ground on the top ones.
In the stretch, Dover in Motion went to work. The gelding kicked into another gear to win by six lengths in 1:52.1, a final quarter in :26.4. Adamsville Road and Sam Widger moved up for second over Wildfire Seelster, who finished third.
Dover in Motion paid $5.40 for the win. The Dover Dan four-year-old is owned by M & M Racing and Macomber Racing. Lyle Slabach bred the gelding, who is trained by Jamie Macomber.
The win was a new lifetime mark for Dover in Motion, who earned his 14th career win and his fourth of 2023. The standout Indiana sired trotter began his career winning eight of nine starts and earning Two-Year-Old Trotter of the Year in Indiana. He is just shy of $500,000 in earnings. He was a $50,000 yearling purchase from the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale under the name Kwik Kramer. He sold from consignor Integrity Stables.
Dover in Motion is a half brother to the standout trotter Swan in Motion as well as Skyway Kon Man, both of which are six figure winners.
