Dover Glide slides under wire for Meadows win
Dover Glide was able to score the win in a three-horse photo Friday, Dec. 22 at The Meadows. The Indiana sired gelding trotted home in :28.4 for the win in 1:55.2.
Dover Glide and Hunter Myers had the inside post and the gelding had a big hold of Myers when the gate swung open. However, Myers opted to stay off the early tempo as The Funk and Aaron Merriman took control of the top spot, setting fractions of :27.2 and :57.1 before feeling any pressure from the outside. McMatters and Drew Monti led the outer flow, giving Dover Glide the chance to move out with him and travel second over.
Around the final turn, Dover Glide tipped three wide to get into position for the stretch drive. In the stretch, three horses were across the track and traveled side by side to the finish line. Only a nose separated Dover Glide and his opponents at the wire with Dover Glide getting the win. McMatters finished second over The Funk.
Dover Glide paid $10.00 for the win. The sophomore son of Dover Dan is owned by Martin Valentic and McKenna Adams. Martz Creek Farm bred the gelding, who is trained by J.L. Adams.
Dover Glide has settled in nicely since his arrival in Pennsylvania. He was a winner in the Open Trotting ranks earlier this fall. He now has more than $55,000 on his card. His win in the upper conditioned trot Friday at The Meadows was a new lifetime mark for the gelding.
Earlier in the day, Indiana sired Always Gonna B You was a winner for Aaron Merriman. The four-year-old daughter of Always a Virgin sat patiently in the two-hole before moving out in the stretch and pacing home in :28.1 for the win by one and three-quarter lengths. C Is For Cookie and Chris Lems, who cut the mile, finished second. Tonianne and Hunter Myers moved from the back of the pack to pass horses in the lane for third.
Always Gonna B You paid $7.20 for the win. She is owned by Renee Bercury and trained by William Bercury. The former Indiana Sires Stakes contender for trainer Jeff Cullipher. She took her career best time of 1:49.4 earlier this year at The Meadows and has more than $423,000 in earnings.
