Coming off a year with cancellations for a lot of Standardbred activities and events, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation (HHYF) found a way to keep kids engaged with HHYF Activity Boxes. The boxes are back in 2021 and the series kicks off with the first one, “We’re Off to the Winner’s Circle – Standardbred Essentials,” now available.
The 2021 Series of HHYF Activity Boxes provide educational and fun interactions for kids 12 and up. Each box in the series has a theme. The other boxes for the year include “Mares, Fillies & Colts, Oh My! – Standardbred Farm Life,” “There’s No Place Like the Homestretch – Standardbred Racing” and “Now Which Way Do We Go? – Standardbred Careers”. Purchasing the entire series will provide savings and the contents of each box is related to the other boxes.
“The content is loosely based on regular school subjects like math, science, language arts, history and art” explains Executive Director Ellen Taylor. “Our team is exceptionally creative when it comes to engaging the younger audience. In each box, we have included at least one ‘make it yourself’ project along with a variety of games and puzzles.”
The second box will be available in May with the third and fourth boxes available in July and September, respectively. A fifth box, geared toward kids under the age of 11, is also available now. Titled “Oh, What a Wonderful World – Fun with Standardbreds” is designed for early-reading horse enthusiasts and includes simple activities for the younger racing fans.
Activity boxes are $25 each, or the entire series of four may be purchased for $90. Once the order is received, boxes will be shipped during the month they are ordered. Any past box requests will be shipped within five to seven business days.
In addition to the activity boxes, the HHYF is currently working on a schedule for 2021 summer activities which includes the popular HHYF Camps, pending Covid-19 rules and regulations.
